The Artists

Whitledge-Burgess roomboxRay Whitledge and Scott Burgess met at Chicago International in 2004 and decided to form the creative partnership known to the miniature world as Whitledge-Burgess, LLC.

Ray has long been known for his exquisite room settings. Pursuing his passion for miniatures since he was a child, Ray's earliest construction experience was building dollhouses from cardboard boxes that came from the local grocer.

Ray spent the first 13 years of his career applying his design skills in the creation of full-scale residential interiors, many of which included his signature window treatments.

Ray's formal introduction as a full-time miniaturist was in 1994 when he bought Andrews Miniatures. That purchase launched Ray on a new career where he could combine his passion for miniatures with his talent as an interior designer.

Whitledge-Burgess roomboxLike Ray, Scott also has an extensive background in the field of interior design. After practicing for 22 years, his career goal of opening his own design firm, "Interiors in Full Scale", was realized in 2001.

Scott's earliest memory of miniatures was as a child when his Father created a 1/12 scale ladder back chair. While his interest was piqued at that time, it lay dormant for many years, until he happened upon a miniatures shop in London in 1999.

Until last year, Scott's activity in miniatures was limited to attending shows and taking classes to hone his skills in 1/12 scale upholstery.

Ray and Scott have developed a process for the creation of their room settings. Their goal is to design each room to be unique and visually stimulating. When they have finalized the design concept, Ray focuses on construction, faux finishing and window treatments. Scott assists in the finishing of the interiors as well as designing and constructing all of the upholstered furniture. For each roombox, the final choice of accessories and artwork is done in collaboration.

In addition to designing and building roomboxes, Ray and Scott enjoy traveling to shows and conducting workshops.

Please plan to visit this site often to check on their current projects and workshop schedule.
